01 - Set the oven to 400°F (200°C) and allow it to fully heat.
02 - Remove the loose outer layers from the garlic head while keeping the cloves intact.
03 - Slice approximately 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) off the garlic head to expose the tops of the cloves.
04 - Place the garlic cut side up on a piece of aluminum foil or in an ovenproof dish.
05 - Drizzle olive oil over the exposed cloves allowing it to seep into the head; sprinkle with salt and black pepper if desired.
06 - Wrap the garlic head loosely in foil or cover the dish and roast for 35 to 40 minutes until cloves are golden, soft, and fragrant.
07 - Allow the roasted garlic to cool slightly, then squeeze the cloves out of their skins as needed for use.
